Magento “Go” to Shut Down, Customers to Acquire by Bigcommerce



If you are one of the customers using the eBay’s “Magento Go”, a small-business eCommerce product, then you must take a look at this news. As their client, this may be a stunning news for you, as eBay is going to close down its Magento "Go" item as uncovered by a source to the Recode.net.

It is also being said that, a deal has been made between the eBay & Bigcommerce, an Australian e-commerce company to acquire the customers of eBay-owned competitor Magento’s Go service.

Bigcommerce is the biggest Australia-based eCommerce company, established in year 2009. The company have its corporate offices located at Austin, Texas and Australia. With more than 50,000 customer base, the Bigcommerce has raised $75 million to fuel its growth. According to the sources, the Bigcommerce is refusing its deal with eBay as mentioned by StartupSmart in their news. Additionally, eBay is also planning to kill-off its ProStores, an  ecommerce solution targeting similar sized businesses. Both eBay & Bigcommerce spokeswoman have declined to give any comment on this deal.

Magento, which was acquired in 2011 by eBay Inc., for $22.5M, was offering three levels of software products, out of which two products were focused toward medium sized businesses, large brands and retailers, whereas the “Go” product was focused at small businesses. However, as per various sources, it was confirmed that Magento’s Go product never succeeded in pulling customers against competitors such as Bigcommerce and Shopify. Additionally, prior in this year, most likely in March, a large number of the Magento workers were trim down as organization was wanting to realign the business concentrating more its two items (Magento Enterprise and Community Edition), as said by the organization.

In the past two years, eBay successfully moved the customers from their old service ProStores to its Magento’s Go service. However, since eBay is again planning to move its Magento Developers India Go customers to over Bigcommerce, lets see how many customers will be shifted and how its going to affect the customers.
